Ahr valley experience seminar

This seminar day kicks off with a brief introduction into the sensory appreciation of wine. An aroma circuit is used to train your senses, to make you taste more consciously, and to show you how a wine should be professionally described and analysed.

Following this, we will briefly introduce German wines to you, naturally with a particular focus on our own region. A tasting of five red wines will add a practical dimension to what you have learned about sensory appreciation.

Then we will set off with our picnic utensils packed in our rucksacks, and will walk through the vineyards of the "Ahrweiler Rosenthal" site. We will explain the winemaker's work in the vineyard to you, showing you the various grape varieties as well as the trellising systems used, and will discuss the concept of terroir in one of the most beautiful viticultural landscapes in Germany. A light picnic meal consisting of regional specialities, wine and mineral water will give us a break at the Hemmes chapel, from where we can enjoy the most spectacular view over the town of Ahrweiler.

On our way back through the picturesque small town of Ahrweiler we will provide you with information on the period when the town was founded in the 13th century, and will show you romantic half-timbered houses, the town moat and the gates to town.
